blumen garden sycamore photos

Like she stepped straight out of the pages of a glossy, Brenda here simply exudes elegance and glamour. I really enjoyed this shoot because Brenda’s lovely styling pulls off the very definition of “rustic chic,” juxtaposing earthiness with a dose of high fashion on location at Blumen Gardens. Speaking of, this was a “Just Because” portrait photo shoot. She previously booked me for another similar shoot last year when she passed her CPA exam.

When was the last time you did something just for yourself? As I photographed the lovely B, who was visibly enjoying this special treat to herself, I was reminded that there is a certain richness to self-reflecting and consciously doing more for oneself. I am not just a wife and mother. I am also a woman who, once upon a time, had many interests, and boy, do I need to make the effort to do more – for myself!

I’m excited for Part 2 of Brenda’s shoot, which we’ll do when the fall foliage sets in. It should be lovely, like this, just because.

Enjoy these photos, be inspired, and go on, do something for yourself!

xo, Melissa

cantigny park wedding ceremony

In a wonderfully simple ceremony that was as sweet as it was small, Tammy wed Mark in the lush gardens of Cantigny Park. Perhaps because this is the second time for both, there were no frills, just the essentials – the bride, the groom, an intimate collection of dear friends and family, and a whole lotta love!

This is another recent couple of mine that met on Match.com. Mark is a great dad, attentive and talkative – which makes him a good match for Tammy (“a good match,” geddit??) who has a sunny disposition and is always smiling.

The simple beauty of the gardens was complemented by understated wedding elegance with just the right amount of colorful pops – Tammy’s shimmery halter-style gown, colorful Jelly Belly filled jars, and purple vested ring bearers – a lovely reminder that sometimes less is more for the things that matter most in life.

All my best to you, Tammy and Mark! Scroll through for more of their special day in this naturally exquisite venue.

female boudoir photographer in chicago

Lyndsay, my blushing bride from just a few weeks ago, looking nothing less than a blonde Jessica Rabbit here. I told you she was feisty. Va-va-voom!

This boudoir shoot in Room #55 at Longman & Eagle is one of my favorites ever. The farm to table restaurant in Chicago also has several rooms upstairs for overnight stay, and Room #55 proved to offer just the right amount of lived-in comfort with a masculine appeal for this boudoir shoot.

A few things to know about boudoir:

Ombre hair is a perfect accessory for your birthday suit.

Don’t (or maybe do, if you’re feeling randy) stand in front of a window. You might be noticed by passers-by. Case in point: two moms with strollers walked by as Lyndsay was in her red number, stopped, stared. Mouths dropped. (She waved at them, of course.)

Bring wine. And drink it to overcome your nerves! Because even when you’re feisty and confident like Lyndsay, it’s a different story to be photographed in this manner.

Pick a photographer that you’re comfortable with! It was instant chemistry between Lyndsay and me. I simply shoot what I see that day and make sure the client’s natural beauty is the highlight of the shoot.

Thanks for a fun shoot, Lyndsay!
