I love being a Chicago maternity photographer because of the city’s endless options for a picture-perfect location. Though many of my clients prefer their maternity and portrait sessions outdoors in natural settings for obvious reasons (like at the ever-popular Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool, see here and here), sometimes there is a time and a place for a downtown city location like The Godfrey Hotel. And there’s not a more fitting location than this for Vikki and Derek’s maternity session, featuring a stylish, “citified” glam couple expecting their first baby. (You might remember Vikki and Derek’s infinite knack for styling detail when I blogged their engagement and wedding!)
These glowing parents-to-be still live in Cincinnati, but they keep coming back to Chicago for milestone occasions! I joke that they are like bees attracted to honey (which is basically how I feel about my fair city). And today The Godfrey provided just the right mix of industrial-chic with its indoor lounge and outdoor roofscape, where we scored magical lighting despite being smack dab in the heart of the urban jungle. It all felt very fresh and pulsed with a resort vibe. No mom jeans here.
Congrats to Vikki on your stylish bump! You and Derek will be amazing parents!
