chicago diner en blanc 2014Any day is a good day for a tulle skirt, and it was my #OOTD to the Diner en Blanc event in Chicago a couple weeks ago. I’m not gonna lie, this Space 46 Boutique tutu had me kinda feeling like Carrie Bradshaw.

I want to share a glimpse of my personal life today, since usually I blog about other people. Remember when I said I needed to get out more and do more for myself? There didn’t seem to be a better opportunity than going to a themed dress fête, and I had the BEST time in ages! Said fête, Diner en Blanc, is like one massive Greek sorority party (a couple thousand in attendance, no biggie) – and everyone is told to wear the same color and there is a definite aura of exclusivity. Only difference is that this shindig is more civilized.

See? All white! (Except for a swipe of a bright red lippie. I really must find more places to wear to.)

It’s a secret affair with a secret location that is revealed to partygoers only hours before! (Lincoln Park Nature Boardwalk was the incredible backdrop for this year.)

It is invite-only!

You even have to bring all white tableware for dining!

The dinner gods must have been smiling down on us because the day started off pouring and ended that way at night. Luckily, everything in between was dry like it was meant to be!!

Sorority jokes aside, Diner en Blanc is truly a photographer’s dream. More than that it was a rare magical, elegant evening spent with The Giant and friends, amongst the revelry of thousands of others all there for the same reason – having a grand time! Scroll through to see all the fun, from beginning to end! There are no shades of grey here!

blumen garden sycamore photos

Like she stepped straight out of the pages of a glossy, Brenda here simply exudes elegance and glamour. I really enjoyed this shoot because Brenda’s lovely styling pulls off the very definition of “rustic chic,” juxtaposing earthiness with a dose of high fashion on location at Blumen Gardens. Speaking of, this was a “Just Because” portrait photo shoot. She previously booked me for another similar shoot last year when she passed her CPA exam.

When was the last time you did something just for yourself? As I photographed the lovely B, who was visibly enjoying this special treat to herself, I was reminded that there is a certain richness to self-reflecting and consciously doing more for oneself. I am not just a wife and mother. I am also a woman who, once upon a time, had many interests, and boy, do I need to make the effort to do more – for myself!

I’m excited for Part 2 of Brenda’s shoot, which we’ll do when the fall foliage sets in. It should be lovely, like this, just because.

Enjoy these photos, be inspired, and go on, do something for yourself!

cantigny park wedding ceremony

In a wonderfully simple ceremony that was as sweet as it was small, Tammy wed Mark in the lush gardens of Cantigny Park. Perhaps because this is the second time for both, there were no frills, just the essentials – the bride, the groom, an intimate collection of dear friends and family, and a whole lotta love!

This is another recent couple of mine that met on Match.com. Mark is a great dad, attentive and talkative – which makes him a good match for Tammy (“a good match,” geddit??) who has a sunny disposition and is always smiling.

The simple beauty of the gardens was complemented by understated wedding elegance with just the right amount of colorful pops – Tammy’s shimmery halter-style gown, colorful Jelly Belly filled jars, and purple vested ring bearers – a lovely reminder that sometimes less is more for the things that matter most in life.

All my best to you, Tammy and Mark! Scroll through for more of their special day in this naturally exquisite venue.
